Put the Frameworks into Practice.

Seeing Beyond Assumptions is built around a simple idea: opportunities become easier to recognize when we learn to see the assumptions shaping how we understand technologies, customers, markets, and industries.

The frameworks I have developed provide a practical way to do that. I work with innovators, universities, organizations, and leadership teams to apply these approaches to real technologies and real opportunities, from uncovering possibilities that have been overlooked to determining which are worth pursuing and moving them toward commercialization.

Innovation & Commercialization: Moving from possibility to application.

Recognizing an opportunity is only the beginning. The next challenge is translating that opportunity into something that can create value in the real world.

I work with innovators and organizations to explore how technologies and ideas can move toward viable applications, ventures, partnerships, pilots, and markets. This includes thinking beyond the technology itself to understand who might value it, what assumptions need to be tested, and what pathway could move the opportunity forward.

My perspective is grounded in hands-on experience with technology transfer, startup development, entrepreneurship, and the commercialization of emerging technologies.

Areas of focus include:

Technology commercialization
New venture development
Business model development
Market and application exploration
Commercial pilots and partnerships
Innovation strategy

Technology & Opportunity Assessment: See more of what is possible.

Technologies are often evaluated through the lens of their intended application. But the properties that make a technology valuable in one setting may create entirely different possibilities elsewhere.

Using frameworks from Seeing Beyond Assumptions, I help teams examine technologies from multiple perspectives, identify the assumptions surrounding their current use, and uncover applications and opportunities that may otherwise remain hidden.

The process can also help distinguish an interesting possibility from an opportunity with the structural reach and economic significance to warrant further attention.

Applications include: technology assessment, opportunity identification, application discovery, portfolio prioritization, and early commercialization decisions.

Areas of focus include:

Technology and opportunity assessment
Application and market exploration
Opportunity recognition
Commercialization strategy
Emerging technology and innovation

Workshops & Executive Learning: Learn to see what is hidden.

Innovation often begins before the brainstorming session. It begins by recognizing the assumptions shaping how we understand a problem, customer, market, technology, or industry.

I design interactive workshops and learning experiences that help participants uncover those assumptions, challenge established ways of thinking, and recognize opportunities that might otherwise remain invisible.

Sessions can be designed for executive teams, innovation groups, entrepreneurs, faculty, students, and organizations navigating technological or market change.

Workshops can be designed around Seeing Beyond Assumptions, Opportunity Recognition, Technology Innovation, Assumption Mapping, Horizons of Assumption, or the application of these frameworks to a specific challenge facing an organization.

Let’s Work Together

You don't need to arrive with a clearly defined opportunity. You might have a technology whose potential is unclear, an innovation that has stalled, a market that seems resistant to change, or a problem your organization has been looking at the same way for years.

Sometimes the most useful place to begin is simply to ask:

What are we assuming, and what might we see if those assumptions changed?
